Along with almost every other Scout around the world, at 8am on Wednesday
August 1, Badger Hill celebrated the Sunrise Ceremony. We thought we'd try
and be a bit unusual, and as we have the world famous Woburn Safari Park in
our District (our District campsite is on the Estate), the Safari Park
people kindly agreed to open up early especially for us and put the
elephants on parade too. |
|
Leaders from various sections and the Explorer colour party waiting for 8am. |
 |
 |
Finally in the right position at the right time - Anglia TV ready as well on
the left. |
|
Three cheers for the people from Woburn who made it all possible with two of
the keepers in the foreground flanking Lord Robin Russell, younger brother
of the Duke of Bedford, who runs the Woburn Centre for Conservation and
Education.

 |
Three cheers for Scouting this time, with everyone joining in |
|
Making the promise with a slightly modified Scout salute. Well, it was a
brilliantly sunny morning and perfect for a Centenary Celebration, but the
sun was in just the wrong place. |

Some
Scouts and a stray Explorer giving an elephant a bit of TLC |
| Got
the salute perfect this time, and unknown to the Beavers the elephants were
doing it too! |

Explorers getting their hand in at stroking an elephant |
 |
 |
A
representative selection from the whole Group - Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, and
Explorers. Don't know what it was, but there's obviously something very
interesting off-stage left........... |

Elephants on parade |
 |
 |
And
again....... The elephants are very well behaved, but they're still wild
animals and large, whereas Beavers aren't wild (mostly) and can be quite
small, so a fence between the two is a good idea. |
| What
more suitable time to do a few Explorer investitures ? |
 |
 |
Nearly done now, then back to the HQ for bacon butties |
